Software Project Manager/Engineering Focus

This position will be responsible for assisting the manager with project development tasks. In addition to supporting the Manager, the Project Manager will own the day-to-day development tasks of sku feature update projects.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manager software vendors and third party development
  • Well versed in object-oriented design, device driver integration, application installation, and Direct X technologies and Windows Media.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, review and vet developers strategies using the above technologies
  • Knowledge of web technologies would be an added advantage
  • Research new technologies
  • Create proofs of concepts
  • Identify and recommend improvements to the application code and software strategies
  • Work with marketing, engineering personnel, and 3rd party development firms on fulfilling product line strategies
  • Maintain project schedules and development
  • Capture specifications

Requirements:

Experience with kids' products desired, but not required. Candidate's skill set must include excellent communication skills, project management experience and the ability to work comfortably and effectively to bridge technical and creative environments. A bachelor's degree in related field is required.

Hardware Project Manager (Project Manager/Consumer Electronic Products)

Digital Blue is seeking talented hardware program managers with direct experience developing consumer electronics. This position is responsible for leading a cross-functional team from the concept phase thru development and into high volume manufacturing.

Required is a demonstrated track record of leading cross-functional teams including mechanical design, firmware development, PCB layout, debug, quality assurance, and packaging. In addition the successful candidate will manage external hardware vendors, which may include engineering consultants, branding partners, and Asian manufacturing facilities.

You will negotiate program staffing needs, manage schedule constraints, and drive the development team to deliver a high quality, cost effective product to the market place. Key to success is a high attention to detail, proactive problem solving, and diligent management of the development schedule. The successful candidate will need to develop a strong partnership with quality assurance, test planning, marketing, sales, and software development teams.

Flexibility is critical in this position as the consumer electronics industry shifts based on ever changing tends in sales and marketing! The successful candidate is expected to respond to various inputs ensuring a timely launch of new products.

This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of experience with direct involvement developing or project managing innovative consumer electronic products. Experience with PC based USB imaging or audio devices required. Excellent written/verbal communication skills, project management experience and the ability to effectively bridge technical and creative teams are a must. In addition, your ability to fluently read and speak fluent Mandarin Chinese is a significant plus.

Minimum education requirement is a bachelor's degree in Engineering, BSEE or BSME.

Mechanical Engineer

Digital Blue is looking for a mechanical engineer to become part of its product development team. This position will be responsible developing the forms and parts for stylish technology products (such as digital cameras), and managing the tooling of these 3D designs with our Asia based hardware partners.

This hardware engineer will be a critical asset in a unique and creative environment. This position works closely with our hardware project manager through various phases of hardware design and development. The ultimate goal for this position is providing well developed design files (e.g. ProE) to our factories, and subsequently managing the proper tooling of a high quality mold injected product.

Flexibility is critical in this position! There are a wide variety of responsibilities in this role, including early concept research, feasibility analysis for new product ideas, integrating/validating/debugging mechanical design for complex electronic devices, and resolving manufacturing issues with our production facilities in Asia .

This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience designing and implementing consumer electronic devices. Demonstrated work experience in the development of retail products with 3D CAD software is necessary. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required.

Director of Hardware Development

Digital Blue is a leading maker of electronics and software for the youth market. Digital Blue’s innovative consumer electronics are used by millions of kids and teens worldwide each day. Award-winning educational products, including the Smithsonian Computer Microscope and the Digital Movie Creator 3.0, are used in classrooms around the world. Digital Blue has partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products to develop an innovative line of youth electronics for the upcoming Batman movie to be released in the summer of 2008.  Other hot products include the American Idol Digital Camera and Camcorder, along with top sellers that include the Disney Pix line of digital cameras, the Disney Mix line of personal media players, and the new Disney Flix Digital Video Camera.  Due to rapid growth, Digital Blue needs a Director/Hardware Development.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead a multi-platform development team and have direct management responsibility for all aspects of hardware engineering including; development, integration, testing, and support.  Ensure that technology strategies and implementation are consistent with company product vision, goals and timeframes.

Make key engineering decisions and tradeoffs in terms of resource requirements, product development costs, schedules and product features.  Lead product development efforts and foster effective relationships with other functional groups in the organization.  Serve as part of the management team that directs and develops strategy, especially regarding the desirability and feasibility of pursuing new product opportunities.
 
Team with Senior Management to establish appropriate objectives and budgets for all development functions consistent with the Company's overall business plan and annual operating plan/budget.  Ensure the appropriate internal and external resources are in place to accomplish the company objectives.  Implement an effective, but lean, internal organization that is highly committed and dedicated to the Company's success.  Build relationships with customers, vendors, contractors and external partners for all our product development initiatives.  Identify the design vs. performance tradeoffs; translate the impact of design on scalability, performance, etc. into the product development plan.

Develop a 2-3 year plan incorporating future trends and forecast, based on industry needs and technology.  Prepare executive level summaries and participate in business reviews.  Direct and implement the development strategy of potential new products and/or market opportunities for the group.  Identify and drive improvements in the development process that facilitates speed, accuracy, flexibility and efficiency to positively impact quality, schedules and cost improvements.

Manage all activities necessary to take product from concept to production, including system architecture definition, prototyping, validation, etc.  Responsible for overseeing multiple development managers and programs.

REQUIREMENTS:
Strong skills in setting vision, direction, and driving change.  A proven track record of building technology teams with a broad understanding of hardware and software development.  Implement best practices for product development, architecture and quality assurance.

Broad knowledge of engineering theories and principles.   Demonstrated understanding of the computing industry and the dynamics of successful technology management in a fast-paced environment.  Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.  Ability to drive cross-functional development efforts through conception, planning, implementation and sustaining.  Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.  Strong understanding of appropriate technologies, vendor products, and competitor’s offerings.

Must be able to communicate technical and non-technical information to all levels of internal and external stakeholders.  Candidate will have a demonstrated success in leading engineering and development teams.  Willing to travel to offshore vendors, 2 to 6 times/year, 1-2 weeks at a time.

Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer or related engineering field; Masters preferred.  Minimum 10 years experience leading product development teams.  Must have strong leadership, communication skills and experience to effectively lead company's multi-tasking teams. Must have extensive hands-on experience in small, medium and large-scale manufacturing.

Marketing Coordinator, Youth Electronics

This position will work with the Marketing and Sales team on daily marketing activities, including:  fulfilling sales materials and presentations, managing all domestic and international marketing sales and resource materials, coordinating with outside vendors on marketing & PR activities and management of trade show participation and materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the coordination and development of all sales and marketing materials, including the development and distribution of Digital Blue's quarterly newsletter. Materials must be consistently updated and distributed to all marketing partners and sales reps
  • Fulfillment and management of all retail, sales, and international sample requests, and management of sample budget
  • Work with Marketing Manager and Web Designer to keep digiblue.com up-to-date and relevant on a daily basis
  • Assist with the preparation of all upcoming sales meetings, working proactively to obtain most up-to-date products and information
  • Assist with all PR efforts, working with Digital Blue’s PR agencies, as well as any licensor agencies. Send updated materials, samples and placement lists to agencies on an ongoing basis, and manage Digital Blue's product and design award submissions
  • Coordinate communication (updated sales information, company updates, and creative resources) to all International distributors
  • Manage all trade shows, including:  registration, securing space, creative execution, set-up, sales materials, and scheduling
  • Coordinate with outside vendor fulfillment of marketing events, plans, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of sales presentation materials and customer presentations.
  • Assist with Digital Blue research, consumer research and monitoring of the competitive marketplace

Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal skills - must have the ability to communicate well across all functions, including oral and presentation
  • 3 - 5 years pervious marketing experience - must be familiar with general marketing practices and concepts
  • Consumer product experience and knowledge is preferred
  • Experience with digital and other emerging technologies is a bonus

Distribution Manager (Atlanta, GA)

In this role you will:

  • Manage all outbound distribution to our customers – scheduling all shipment and coordinating with outsourced warehouse
  • Manage specific information for each customer – order requirements, ASN, Palletizing, etc.
  • Generate and maintain all reports for various activities: inbound and outbound shipments, inventory tracking, customer orders, customer service, inventory, purchase orders, etc.
  • Maintain and track all inventory – Ensuring that inventory levels are accurate in ERP and counts occur monthly
  • Report all shipments and shipping plans to company executive team.
  • Create shipping labels in conformance with customer requirements
  • Manage kitting projects as needed
  • Maintain receiving, warehousing and distribution reports

Requirements:
3-5 years Importing, Supply Chain, Logistics/Transportation or Importing experience highly preferred. 2-3 years of previous Customer Service, clerical or administrative experience absolutely required.
